§ Five woods, up close
Hardwood grain you'll live on in Naples.
Oak, walnut, hickory, herringbone, or our flagship RIVA oak — each reads differently underfoot and in Naples light. Tap any plank to see the grain up close.

Long, open cathedrals with wire-brushed pores — in afternoon light the grain throws a low shadow and the whole plank reads warm without going orange.

The grains we lay most
Hardwood grade in Naples — select or character.
Nearly every wood floor we sell is European white oak, so the real question is the grade. Pick a colour, then drag the line: same oak, same colour, same light — only the grade moves.

- Select
- About 10% of the tree's yield, cherry-picked. Knots no bigger than a dime — clean, calm, contemporary — where Naples is heading.
- Character
- Knots, splits, and real movement left in — a warm floor that forgives a busy house.
Both are wire-brushed. The grain is brushed open instead of sanded flat and filled, so you feel it underfoot. It catches Naples light, and no two boards read the same.
§ The finish question
Hardwood finishes in Naples — oil or lacquer.A different floor in year five.
One plank, photographed twice — same boards, same light, only the finish changed. Pick a side to read what it asks of you five years in.
Your floor in year five
A lacquered floor keeps a sealed, consistent surface with less routine work — nothing to re-oil, nothing to plan around. This is how RIVA ships every plank, and it is the one we lean toward for a Naples house that gets lived in.
Neither one is wrong. Oil gives you a living surface and asks for a real commitment; lacquer seals it and mostly asks to be swept. Naples sun and salt push both hard — so pick the one whose year-five Saturday you actually want.
RIVA Spain, the oak we spec in Naples.
Our flagship line, and one of many we carry. 100% European white oak, wide-plank, on a marine-grade Baltic-birch core — milled in Spain, finished with a VOC-free Bona lacquer.

Hardwood flooring questions.
The questions we actually get asked, answered the way we would on the showroom floor. The specs are under them if you want to go deeper.
Can you install hardwood over existing tile in Naples?
In a lot of Naples condos, yes — if the tile is level and well-bonded we can float an engineered hardwood floor over it with a cork-rubber pad. We test three spots before we commit to the approach. If the tile is hollow anywhere, we tear it.
Why engineered wood on a slab?
It is the practical construction for a concrete slab — a stable core under a real oak wear layer — but we still moisture-test the slab before approving the installation method.
Select or Character grade?
Same species. Select is the quieter, cleaner field; Character carries more knots and movement. The decision is how much natural variation you want to see.
Oil or lacquer?
Oil feels closer to raw wood and can be touched up in place, but asks for periodic care. Lacquer is a sealed, uniform, lower-maintenance surface — it is how RIVA ships every plank.
Can I see full boards before I decide?
Yes. Compare them on the floor and the wall at the Trade Center Way showroom, then take the shortlist into your own light — a hand sample under showroom lighting is not the decision.
What about the dust?
Pre-finished engineered floors — including every RIVA plank — mean close to zero sanding dust. Floors finished on site are contained under negative pressure, and for a whole-house site finish we recommend being out of the house during the cure.
Can I refinish later without replacing?
Yes. Refinishing is routine on ¾″ solid or engineered floors with a thick wear layer — we keep your project specs on file so a later recoat still matches the original board and finish.
Will the floor match the cabinets if you do both?
That's why we do both. Floor tone, cabinet stain, and the toe-kick line are specified together in the same review — one palette, one crew, one plan. Our most requested combo is quartered oak floor with rift-cut oak cabinets for a calm, monochrome run.
The specs, if you want them
Everything a designer or a builder would ask us for.
Why RIVA outperforms the import marketWidth, marine-grade core, and Bona finish — three things a discerning eye reads.
10″ wide-plank — fewer seams, calmer rooms
RIVA comes in 8″ and a true 10″ wide-plank, always in long boards. The 10″ width isn't available from any other line we carry — in the Asian import market, 8″ is the ceiling and short random lengths are the norm.
Baltic-birch marine core — built for Florida slabs
Florida concrete slabs run humid. The import market's eucalyptus core moves with the moisture — cupping and buckling before the second summer. RIVA's marine-grade Baltic-birch core bonds flat to concrete and stays flat through every humidity cycle.
Bona lacquer — repairable, won't chalk white
Most imports wear urethane loaded with aluminum oxide. When it scratches, the scratch turns chalky white with no real fix. RIVA's Bona lacquer is durable enough for commercial floors, and when it scratches, the scratch repairs in place.

What changes in a Naples homeSlab moisture, humidity acclimation, condo HOA rules, and snowbird timing.
Slab moisture.
Most Naples homes since 1960 sit on a concrete slab over fill sand over the Florida water table. The slab is alive — it gives off moisture year-round. We moisture-test at three points (calcium chloride, 72 hours) before a board is cut. If the slab fails, we specify remediation; we don't lay over a problem.
Humidity acclimation.
Naples summer indoor humidity sits low when the AC runs hard — boards that didn't acclimate cup, gap, or crown by year two. Every plank acclimates in our Naples shop, logged by pallet, until it stops moving. The floor settles before it gets nailed.
Condo HOA rules.
For tower work we assemble the building's package before material is ordered — insurance certificate, the acoustic spec (typically a 72 IIC underlayment for above-ground floors) and the freight-elevator delivery window — and one project manager coordinates the building super directly.
Hurricane rebuild & snowbird timing.
Insurance-aware, moisture-aware. We work with adjusters and document moisture, sub-floor condition, and material specs throughout. June–September is our offseason — if you're returning in October, a full re-floor can be done before you land.
