Where carpet wins

Not the whole house. The right four rooms.

Carpet in Florida was never about wall-to-wall. It is about the rooms a hard floor was never going to win — the ones you wake up in, the ones the kids live in, the family room the dog rules, the quiet floor upstairs. Here is the map, and the fiber that fits each one.

Where wool earns its keep · Wool

The primary bedroom

The first thing your feet find on a Naples morning. Wool is naturally stain-resistant, soft the second you stand, and stable in conditioned air — the warmest, quietest floor in the house, and the one room where it earns every dollar.

Kids' rooms & rentals

Playrooms and short-term rentals that take a beating. The color is locked into the fiber, so spills, sandy feet, and the dog clean up and the floor holds its look for years.

Family rooms & great rooms

The room the whole house actually lives in — and the one that takes the dog, the spills, and the bare feet all day. The color is locked into the strand, so a soft, quiet floor here cleans up and holds its look for years of hard use.

Second-floor lounges

Theaters, bonus rooms, the upstairs sitting room. Up here the air is drier and controlled, the traffic is calm — exactly where a soft, quiet floor belongs and where a hard surface only ever felt cold.

Old Naples
Where it doesn't

Not the ground-floor rooms that have ever puddled — kitchens, entries, the lanai transition, any slab room that floods in a storm. That is what tile and waterproof plank are for, and we will tell you honestly at the visit where the line falls in your house. Carpet earns the four rooms above. It does not pretend to win the others.

The fiber guide

Two fibers do the real work. Here is the difference.

You do not need to learn twist counts or face weights. You need to know which of two fibers belongs in your room — and how each one actually behaves in a Florida summer. That is the whole decision.

Wool

100% New Zealand · Stanton / Fabrica

The warmest hand there is. A natural fiber that is quietly stain-resistant, hypoallergenic, and built to live for two to three decades in the one room you will keep it longest.

In Naples humidity

Wool breathes. It takes on and releases moisture from the air without going flat or growing musty, so a climate-controlled Naples bedroom is exactly the conditioned, stable environment it wants. New wool sheds for 6–12 weeks of normal vacuuming, then settles for the next twenty years.

Solution-dyed nylon

Color locked in the fiber · Nourison / Mohawk

Toughness with a soft hand. The color is dyed all the way through the strand, not printed on top — so it shrugs off spills, sun, and bleach cleaning without fading, and holds its face through years of feet.

In Naples humidity

Synthetic, so it has no fiber memory and nothing for humidity to swell — it stays dimensionally stable through the wettest Naples summer and the hardest run of the AC. Solution-dyed color means a damp coastal room never streaks or fades the way printed nylon does.

Wool is the right call for the bedroom you'll sleep in for the next decade. Solution-dyed nylon is the right call for the family room with a wet dog and three children. Most houses want both — and we spec it room by room so you never overpay for the wrong fiber in the wrong place.

The binding bench

Cut to the room, bound in-house.

A custom rug is just broadloom that fits. We cut it from the roll to your room's exact dimensions and finish the edge by hand at our own Naples bench — the one thing the retail rug industry can't do, and the reason a custom-bound wool typically lands for less than a comparable store-bought rug that never quite fits the floor.

The custom-bind broadloom room in the Naples showroom — wool rolls and bound rugs anchored by the antique grand piano
  1. We chalk the room

Before a blade touches the broadloom, the rug or runner is drawn in chalk on the showroom floor — your room's exact dimensions, the pattern repeat lined up where you'll actually see it. You see the size before we cut it.

    Field-measured to the inch
  2. We cut from full broadloom

The rug is cut from the same Stanton, Fabrica, or Nourison broadloom we sell by the square foot — not pieced together from a remnant. Pattern alignment is held across every seam so the finished piece reads as one cloth.

Cut to the room, not the catalog
  3. We bind the edge, at our bench

The raw edge is finished by hand in our Naples shop — cotton, leather, or serged binding, matched to your trim. This is the step the retail rug industry skips: a bound edge sized to your floor instead of a fringe sized to a warehouse.

    Cotton · leather · serged
  4. We lay the runner

Stair runners and landings are the hardest-working carpet in the house, so we fit them ourselves — stretched, gripped, and tucked at every riser. A bound runner turns a plain stair into the nicest detail on the floor, and it's quieter and safer underfoot.

Stretched + gripped, riser by riser
The bound edge

The part you actually touch.

A store-bought rug hides a raw or fringed edge cut to a warehouse. We finish yours by hand at the bench and match it to your trim. Here are the three we bind most — flip through and watch the edge change.

Choose a binding finish

Clean and classic. A flat woven cotton tape sewn flush to the pile and matched to the rug — the everyday edge for a bedroom rug or a hallway runner.

Cut to the inch, bound at our bench, in your house by the end of the month — a rug that fits the room instead of a room arranged around a rug.

The details

The details, for when you want them.

Which fiber, which pad, and what twenty-eight years in Naples taught us about carpet that lasts in Florida humidity. Skim what's useful — the showroom is the easy way to get the rest.

Fiber & padSpec'd to the room
  • Solution-dyed nylon or polyester for high-traffic rooms — bleach-cleanable.
  • 100% New Zealand wool for primary bedrooms — hypoallergenic, decades of life.
  • 8-lb memory pad standard; antimicrobial moisture-rated cushion on slab.
  • Acoustic underlayment in stacked condos — meets HOA IIC minimums.

New wool sheds for 6–12 weeks of normal vacuuming, then stabilizes for two decades. The shedding is the fiber settling — not a defect.

Custom bindStanton · finished in-house

We cut a custom rug or stair runner from full broadloom to your room's exact dimensions, align the pattern repeat, and finish the edge with cotton, leather, or serged binding at our bench.

Stretch-in or glue-down depending on subfloor. One bedroom installs in a day; a whole house in a week. Workmanship warranty written and filed.

Carpet over existing condo tile is a common bedroom fix — a thicker pad absorbs the grout lines so the pattern never telegraphs through.

01

Humidity & mildew on slab-on-grade.

Carpet on a ground-floor slab in Naples wants two things: an antimicrobial pad and a moisture-rated cushion. Both are standard on every below-grade install we do — it saves a re-pad call in year three.

02

Salt-air pile maintenance.

Wool and solution-dyed nylon hold up far better than legacy nylon within a mile of the Gulf. We spec the fiber to the exposure and leave you a one-page care guide for the kitchen drawer.

03

Custom-bind rugs over hardwood.

Cut from the same broadloom we sell by the square foot, finished at our bench with cotton, leather, or serged binding. Exact dimensions, exact pattern alignment — a 12×18 wool typically costs less than a comparable retail rug, and it actually fits the floor.

Not sure which fiber?

Bring the room. We'll match the fiber, the pad, and the binding to how you actually live.

Common questions · Carpet

Honest answers.

  • Does carpet make sense in Florida humidity?

In the right rooms — bedrooms, second-floor lounges, theaters, primary closets — yes. Avoid wall-to-wall in ground-floor rooms that have ever puddled. Wool actually handles humidity well; solution-dyed nylon is unbothered by it.

  • Why a custom bind rug instead of a store-bought one?

You get the exact dimensions of your room, the exact pattern repeat, and a binding that matches your trim. A 12′×18′ Stanton wool from our broadloom typically costs less than a comparable retail rug — and it actually fits the floor.

  • Will wool shed forever?

New wool sheds for 6–12 weeks of normal vacuuming. After that it stabilizes and stays clean for two decades. The shedding is the fiber settling — not a defect.

  • Can you install over our existing tile?

Yes — carpet over tile is a common condo bedroom solution. We use a thicker pad to absorb the grout lines so the pattern doesn't telegraph.

  • Do you do commercial carpet for our office or restaurant?

Yes. We carry J+J Kinetex and Mohawk Group commercial broadloom and tile. Modular carpet tile is the right answer for high-traffic Naples retail and restaurant interiors — replace one tile when a stain wins, not the whole floor.

  • What's the IIC rating on the pad for condos?

Standard 8-lb urethane pad with carpet meets most Naples condo HOA sound transmission requirements (typically 50 IIC minimum). We pull your HOA's spec sheet before we order pad.
