A staircase that couldn't read as a different floor
The Wilshire Lakes residence set out to showcase the timeless beauty and craftsmanship of RIVA Spain Earth-color hardwood, flowing effortlessly throughout the home. A staircase is where that ambition usually breaks down: stairs are often treated as a separate scope, with their own wood, their own tone, their own contractor — and the seam shows.
Here the staircase was meant to be a striking architectural focal point, not an afterthought. That meant the custom stair and the character-grade floors in every room had to come from the same wood, with the same rich natural tones, or the whole house would feel slightly disjointed.
Character grade chosen once, carried everywhere
On the color-out, RIVA Spain in Earth color was selected as the single wood for the entire home — character grade, with the authentic wood character and rich natural tones the owners were after. Choosing it as one decision is what let the custom hardwood staircase be built from the same material as the floors it lands on.
Because one project manager owned the job from hello at the door through to the final walkthrough, the custom stair installation was sequenced with the room floors rather than bid out separately. The Earth-color hardwood was acclimated to the Naples climate first; then our own crews built and installed the staircase and laid the character-grade floors as a continuous piece of work.
